This 2026 season, the South Hills High School boys golf team has proved that golf is more than just a sport determined by individual performance. Instead, they have turned the game into a team sport, each sharing similar goals for the season, as well as having the same game plan that they believe will be able to lead them to victory.
Dominic Argomaniz (10) shared that his mental state is one thing that he would like to refine, as it helps to ensure that stress, frustration, and other big factors don’t affect the mental part of their game.
“This season, I’d like to improve my mindset. Normally, when I’m a bit tilted on the course, I let that take over, causing me to make bad plays. I truly want to improve on that and strengthen my mindset,” Argomaniz stated.
Freshman, Liam Marquez discussed the physical aspects of his game he’s looking to improve.
“[This time around], I’d definitely say that I want to get better at shortening. I have also been trying to be more around the green and stay straight and centered with the fairway,” Marquez said.
Chase Wilson (11) spoke about what he and his teammates are most excited about this season.
“This season, [no matter what happens], we are mainly looking forward to playing on all of the different courses, travelling, meeting new players [from other schools], and hopefully making it to CIF”, Wilson said.
Junior, Noah Lopez (11), shared how he prepares before his matches, both physically and mentally.
“I start to prepare for my game in the morning. I have a good breakfast as well with one of my teammates, to make sure I’m physically ready for the game. [Mentally], it’s honestly just a process of staying locked in throughout the whole day, and to already have your nerves eased when the game finally starts. I try to think about what I’m going to do, and how I plan on the match turning out ahead of time, so I don’t stress when the game finally starts,” Lopez said.
