As the season begins, the varsity softball team is focused on building teamwork, improving each game, and working toward their goals for a stronger season.
Senior head captain Brianna Chavez, leading by example both on and off the field, explained what her main focuses for this season are.
“This year as captain is to create a welcoming and healthy environment for my underclassmen where they can feel comfortable to be themselves and play to their best ability to give my team the best team chemistry possible, which will hopefully inspire the underclassmen to continue the same goals,” Chavez said.
Serenity Valdez (11), shared how being on varsity for three years has helped her grow as a player and leader on the team.
“From freshman year till this season, all three years have been different all around, but I think I have grown as a player by contributing with the team, doing my job when it needs to be done, and taking a step in leading the team and winning games,” Valdez said.
Lily Acosta (10), described how adjusting to varsity softball has helped teach her valuable lessons.
“Adjusting to varsity softball has been a great change. It challenges me to be better and gets me out of my comfort zone. So far this season we as a team have been improving and making adjustments I think that the biggest lesson that I have taken from this experience so far is to not let anything get in between the team, once we step onto the field we are family and we play for each other not ourselves,” Acosta said.
