After a very successful competition season for the traditional competition cheer team, stunt officially kicked off its spring season. Stunt takes away the performance aspect of cheering and focuses on technique. There are numerous routines, and when a number is called during a competition, two teams execute the routine simultaneously and earn points. They focus on jumps, tumbling, and stunting. The team has been practicing nonstop to prepare for their upcoming tournaments.
Ziriah Hernandez (9) shared that she is looking forward to seeing the team’s hard work pay off at games and tournaments. Being in her first year of stunt, she has learned to keep up the pace.
“A successful stunt season for me would mean that I’ve improved my skills, stayed consistent, and given my absolute best for practice and matches,” Hernandez said.
Jaylah Fuentes (10) shared who she thinks the team’s biggest competitors are.
“I think our biggest competitors are ourselves. We always like to think of it as us versus us; it’s mind over matter. We know we can do it physically, but that’s where the mental side of it has to come out and prepare us for it. I don’t like to focus on other teams and what they have going on because I know that I can only control what me and my team do and push ourselves to the best of our abilities,” Fuentes said.
Reylene Torres (12) opened up about what her expectations are heading into this stunt season.
“I know this team is capable of bringing it all home. We put [in] countless hours and reps, so all we have to do is go out and do what we do best. [I want to] look back on my last stunt season when it’s all over and truly miss it and have no regrets,” Torres said.
