Beneath the stadium lights and in front of an energetic crowd, the junior girls claimed victory over the seniors in this year’s powderpuff flag football game. Both teams brought energy, teamwork, and school spirit to the field, but the juniors were able to hold onto momentum and secure the win after several key defensive plays.
The game stayed competitive throughout the night, with players from both grades stepping up in major moments. Senior player Hailey Gallegos reflected on one of her favorite memories from the game despite the loss.
“As a senior, my favorite moment during the game was toward the end when I scored the first touchdown, then got a pick on defense that led to another touchdown,” Gallegos said.
For the juniors, defense became the turning point. Junior Haley Ramos explained how one play shifted the energy for her team.
“The biggest moment was when we got a stop on defense and forced a turnover. That really shifted momentum and gave our team confidence,” Ramos said.
That confidence carried throughout the rest of the game as the juniors worked together to maintain control and keep the seniors from making a comeback. Another standout junior player, Ayana Roquemore, shared what surprised her most about her performance during the game.
“What surprised me most was how confident and competitive I became once the game started. I didn’t expect myself to stay so focused under pressure, and I was surprised by how well our team worked together and communicated on the field,” Roquemore said.
