The much anticipated UFC 326 main event on March 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas got SHHS students talking. The two fighters headlining this main event were Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira and Max “Blessed” Holloway. Holloway was the BMF champion and Oliveira was the challenger in this fight. Oliveira was the underdog in this fight and he dominated Holloway for all five rounds. Most of the fight took place on the ground, with Oliveira chasing submissions and damage the whole time. It was a complete shut out that shook everyone watching.
Jayden Phan (11) believed that Holloway was going to win because of all of his skills and attributes.
“I thought that Max was gonna win because he has really good boxing, he has a good chin, he has good takedown defense, or I thought he did. He never got held down before the fight,” Phan said.
Phan added that Holloway is in a kind of stalemate in his career but that he is still capable of putting on entertaining performances.
“The weight cut for him back to 145 would be kind of hard, I think that he should probably stay at 155 and fight more fun fights instead of trying to get a title shot because he’s kind of out of it for now,” Phan said.
Aidan Wiley (11) shared how he was surprised at the dominant performance from Oliveira.
“I didn’t expect it to just be 50-45 and I didn’t expect him to get like 30 takedowns whenever he wanted to,” Wiley said.
He also shared his thoughts on a potential third fight between the two fighters.
“I don’t think people want to see Oliveira maul him for another five rounds again,” Wiley said.
Max Barajas (11) expressed his dissatisfaction with the outcome of the fight and he thinks that Oliveira is not a worthy BMF champion.
“I’m disappointed because the BMF is someone who puts on a good show and fights. Charles Oliveira just wrestled him for 25 minutes,” Barajas said.
