Puerto Rican rapper, singer and producer Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, known professionally as Bad Bunny, recently released the album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS in 2025. At the 68th GRAMMY Awards, the album took home Best Músicia Urbana Album and Album of the Year, while Bad Bunny earned Best Global Music Performance. The album is intended to evoke nostalgia, regret, and a sense of appreciation for time spent with others, reminding us not to take things for granted. Bad Bunny also intended to reflect on the difficult circumstances he and his family faced while growing up in Puerto Rico.
The opening track “NUEVAYoL” explores what it’s like to be Puerto Rican in New York. He notes that Puerto Ricans and New Yorkers have distinct identities and resilience, yet they coexist in peace with one another. He makes Puerto Rican and Dominican cultural references such as baseball player Juan Soto, who is of Dominican descent, and “Big Bun,” a Puerto Rican rapper based in New York in the 2000s. He mentioned Tonita’s House, a bar in NY where many Puerto Ricans often meet up. He also addresses being called the “King of Pop” by Forbes in 2023. This sparked controversy because many people associate the title “King of Pop” exclusively with Michael Jackson, and others questioned how the label could apply to an artist whose primary genre is reggaeton and dembow. The track also draws a parallel between his music and Frida Kahlo’s paintings, noting that both are rooted in deep symbolism and personal pain. I rate this song a 9.5/10.
The third song on the album, “BAILE INoLVIDABLE,” is about lost love and nostalgia. “Baile Inolvidable” translates to “Unforgettable Dance.” Bad Bunny reflects on trying to move on from a past relationship while acknowledging that he had once envisioned a future with her. He reminisces on the moments they shared together, longing for those times to return. He compares her to an unforgettable dance and says that the “rhythm” they shared will stay with him forever. I love this song, and I give it a 10/10.
The 11th song on the album titled “TURiSTA” starts with a melodic guitar to set a reflective tone. This song is about an ex-girlfriend, whom he refers to as a tourist, meaning she only saw the superficial parts of his life without understanding his deeper struggles. Bad Bunny says he was hiding his secrets and that he is scared to release them, for fear that they might hurt him more. The song also works as a metaphor for tourists who come to Puerto Rico seeking fun and relaxation while remaining unaware of the hardships faced by those who actually live there. This is one of the most emotional songs in his discography. This song has deep meaning and is another 10/10.
“EoO” is the 15th song on the album, and upon listening, it appears to be in two parts. The first part is a party song with an explosive beat, and then it shifts into a mellow song that starts to calm down but still has energy. The first part of the song is centered on nightlife and sensuality. Bad Bunny meets a girl at a nightclub, and the two eventually develop a romantic relationship. The second part of the song still has the party beat, but it isn’t as explosive as the first part. He describes someone who goes out hunting instead of dating, and how she owns the streets whenever she is out. He ends the song bragging about his accomplishments as a best-selling artist, as well as celebrating Puerto Rican culture, which is an ongoing theme of the album. This song’s beat and lyrics are great, and I rate this song at 9.5/10.
The title track of the album Debi Tirar Mas Fotos (DTMF), which translates to “I should’ve taken more photos,” captures the feeling of nostalgia and regret that comes when one realizes they didn’t capture enough memories with the people closest to them. The song opens with Bad Bunny in San Juan, Puerto Rico’s capital, where he watches the sunset and finds himself thinking about a girl- reflecting on the moment he first looked into her eyes and the things he never got to say to her, all seemingly in the aftermath of their breakup. He later says in the song, “debí tirar más fotos de cuando te tuve, Debí darte más besos y abrazos las veces que pude”. Which translates to “I should’ve taken more photos from when I had you, I should have given you more kisses and hugs whenever I could.” As the song progresses, he admits that if anyone asked whether he had moved on, he would say yes, but in reality, he couldn’t seem to let her go. The song concludes with the message, “let’s enjoy it because you never know how much time we’ve got left.” This connects back to the central theme of both the song and the album as a whole- cherishing time spent with a lover, a family member, or a friend. This is one of my favorites from the album and is also a 10/10.
I would recommend this album to anyone. While my knowledge of the Spanish language is limited, every song still felt like an experience-it was such a vibe. The production throughout was impressive, and every song carried its own meaningful message. This album is a 10/10 and deserved every award it received.
