The 74th annual Covina Christmas Parade brought the community together this holiday season with festive floats, marching bands, and performances from local groups on Dec. 6. Families lined the streets to celebrate, and several students at South Hills shared their experiences and favorite moments from this year’s parade.
Joshua Garcia (11) shared that the parade has been a part of his life for years and explained how having the right people makes the experience more enjoyable.
“It is a tradition to me. I attend it every single year since I was a kid, and I was in it a few times as well. I say definitely don’t go alone, definitely go with people you can joke around with or enjoy your time with because it can be a little boring alone because you’re just watching the parade, but when you’re with your friends, you can make jokes, talk about stuff, and make a good time out of it,” Garcia said.
Billi Santoya (11) explained what the Christmas season means to her and shared what stood out during the parade.
“The Christmas season to me means being with my family, and it’s really special to me because it means all my family comes together. It was really surprising seeing all of the little kids being able to perform and seeing the band from all the other schools play was really good and surprising,” Santoya said.
Eduardo Gonzalez (11), another attendee of the parade, focused on the joyful atmosphere of the event and described his favorite float from the night.
“I like how families are all together and they’re all happy and enjoying a good time with Christmas and New Years. I did have a favorite float. I don’t remember exactly how it was but it was the Grinch on a motorcycle on top of a float, and I enjoyed it the most because the Grinch was doing the 6-7 motion with his hands,” Gonzalez said.
