On March 6, South Hills ASB hosted its second boys powderpuff, once again bringing energy and excitement to the gym. The seniors and juniors competed in volleyball matches after being coached by the volleyball players. The seniors were coached by Samantha Martinez (12) and Jessica Tolan (12), and the juniors were coached by Alexis Arteaga (11) and Samantha Huizar (11). Some of the players described how the ASB game went, what they enjoyed most, and what they could have changed.
Juniors
Jacob Abrego (11) played in his first powderpuff game and said he was glad they beat the seniors. He expressed that he performed well and enjoyed blocking for the team.
“We worked very well together and we all kind of knew each other, so we had chemistry already, and were able to perform well,” Abrego said.
Ozzy Ayala (11) said that he didn’t feel much confidence in his performance, but was proud that they won. He explained what he enjoyed most about winning.
“Just beating the upperclassmen, it definitely gave us bragging rights, so that was a plus, we won, but we all had fun and were together, so that was the most important thing,” Ayala said.
Jason Salmeron (11) served for the juniors and put up points for his team. Salmeron was a prominent part of the game and enjoyed every aspect of it.
“My favorite part of the game was probably getting those points off serving, and getting points for the team, and I was able to get those points for my team, and everyone was hyping me up,” Salmeron said.
Seniors
Carson Baker (12) expressed that he felt his performance did not reach his expectations and standards. Baker explained what he believed they needed to pull off a win.
“I’d practice more because we weren’t locked in. The hardest part was probably them messing around and trying to lose on purpose, but we still lost,” Baker said.
Alex Ramsummen (12) hoped for a win in his senior year, but still enjoyed the night despite the loss.
“My performance was well, I think I did good, I didn’t do too bad. My favorite part though, was probably going to In-N-Out and eating with my friends,” Ramsummen said.
Juan-Pablo Rodriguez (12) felt the team came into the game underprepared. Despite enjoying his second year of participation, he wished the result had gone their way and shared what he believed the team needed to perform at a higher level.
“I think we should’ve gotten more players and be good, we needed more communication, but I enjoyed the time of being with my friends,” Rodriguez said.
