Daniel Caesar, a popular alternative R&B artist, captivated his fans by hosting free pop-up concerts around North America. Caesar announced the free concerts by posting the time and location on his Instagram, inviting anyone in the area. The shows took place in Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, and Houston. Students from South Hills reflected on their experiences at the free Los Angeles concert.
Matthew Huang (12) described navigating through the massive crowd to secure a good spot at the concert. Despite the noise of the packed crowd, he managed to hear some of his favorite songs.
“It was really crowded, everyone was bunched together and it was pretty hard to hear him. My favorite songs that he sang were ‘Get You’ and ‘Japanese Denim’ because his vocals were really good,” Huang said.
Alex Tran (10) explained how he learned about the event and shared his thoughts on the experience.
“Daniel Caesar posted [the location] on his story, and when I found out I rushed over to LA,” Tran said. “When we got there it was really crowded, we had to get there super early to get good spots. I was able to hear him pretty well because I was close, and I heard him play ‘Get You’ and especially ‘Toronto 2014’, which is one of my favorite songs.”
Isabella Cesena (12), a Daniel Caesar fan, shared her thoughts on the much-anticipated LA concert and her love for his music.
“I found about [the location] on Instagram. I wanted to go because I have already been to one of his concerts so I was waiting for him to post where he was going to be,” Cesena said.“I listen to him basically every single day, even if it’s a few songs. I like that his music is really mellow, it’s good background music.”
