ASB’s annual Husky Haunt came back for its second year on Oct. 29. South Hills ASB students reflected on organizing the spooky fun filled event. Husky Haunt is an annual event organized by ASB, which consists of trunk or treats, games, vendors, and highly anticipated mazes that are open to all.
Joslynn Luong (12), a member of ASB’s activities commission, spoke about organizing the event and what she considered a key component to making the event successful.
“I think that the key component to making Husky Haunt successful was the scare actors. Seeing my friends get into character and scare actors that they were assigned to be made the maze more successful as it set the tone of the maze, and they made it even more scarier with the screams they were making,” Luong said.
Mackenzie Willison (12), ASB’s activities lead, explained where the inspiration for the Harvest of Horror House came from.
“I took inspiration from the idea of a farmy slaughter house with the butcher knife and bloody aprons, but that idea was shut down because it would’ve been too inappropriate for school. We ended up taking the more farm route with the corn maze, pumpkin patch, and scarecrows,” Willison said.
Ava Goreen (12), ASB activities commission member, shared what she learned from last year’s Husky Haunt and how she applied those lessons to improve this year’s event.
“Last year taught us a lot about planning and timing. We made sure the lines and maze flow were more organized this time, so people weren’t waiting forever. We also added better lighting and decorations to fit the theme and make the scares stand out more. Overall, we just tried to make everything smoother and more put together,” Goreen said.
