Cafe Valer is located in Plaza West Covina, and it is a family owned business that started in 2003. They’re recognized for their friendly culture that makes one feel closer to the staff.
The atmosphere was very homey and cozy which fits in perfectly with their friendly family owned company. They had an indoor and an outdoor seating area. The indoor area did sometimes feel stuffy and crowded depending on how many people there are so we would recommend the outdoor area on a fresh day.
They serve a variety of drinks. We will be reviewing their beverages such as their Chai Latte and Caramel Latte.
The Chai Latte was very rich in flavor with a delightful cinnamon spice. The milk balanced out the spice with the sweet. It was a vibrant drink without being overpowering.
The Caramel Latte striked an amazing balance between coffee and caramel. Neither of the flavors overshadowed the other. The coffee itself had an enjoyable depth that gave it a nice kick. The caramel added a sweet richness which enhanced the coffee taste.
Overall, Cafe Valer had a peaceful and intimate atmosphere to get away from the crowded mall. They delivered a good coffee kick that many would enjoy, especially in areas like the mall when you want a push to start your shopping.
Rad Coffee
Rad Coffee, located on Citrus Avenue, opened in 2020. It is an independent coffee company that stands out because of its skater culture and Instagramable decor.
If you’ve driven through downtown Covina recently you might’ve spotted Rad Coffee. Recognized for their eye-catching punk vibe, they sure knew how to emulate that in their interior decor. Unlike the other locations they didn’t have much seating but what they did have was an array of arcade games along with their famous wall of band posters perfect for your Instagram needs. Overall the location could use some more seating but it is a nice place to go with friends who like the punk scene.
The Coffee Latte is a must-try for anyone who loves a bold, full-bodied brew. The coffee packs a punch with its strong flavor, but the gentle sweetness balances it out, making each sip smooth yet powerful.We highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates a good cup of coffee that still has a touch of sweetness to round it out.
The Sea Salt Caramel Latte was a flavorful blend of both sweet and savory. Each flavor enhanced the other. It had a pleasurable depth that contrasted between boldness and smooth, sweetness.
Rad Coffee would definitely be a good fit to rock lovers, the atmosphere would really make one feel connected to that culture. They have a nice variety of sweet and pungent tasting drinks. If you’re looking for a robust, roasted, but still smooth coffee, this is the place for you.
Chimosa Cafe
Chismosa Cafe located on College Street started as a long standing pop up shop. They are known for their Latinx culture, and they feature much of the culture through their menu and also decor.
The vibe at Chismosa Cafe is just as sweet as their beverages. The space is colorful and welcoming, with bright murals and cozy seating that make it the perfect spot to relax or hang out with friends. The chill aura of the cafe adds to the whole experience, making it feel like a little escape in Covina. Whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee or settling in for a while, the atmosphere makes it a place you’ll want to come back to.
The Caramello was sweeter than all the others, it felt like a sugary hug in a cup. It highlighted the rich caramel syrup that took center stage. It had a smooth and velvety texture that made the drink comforting.
The Vanilla Cold Brew, similar to the last drink, was on the sweeter side. The vanilla syrup was on the brink of overshadowing the cold brew but the milk was able to enhance both flavors, creating an enjoyable balance.
Chismosa Cafe has an inviting atmosphere especially to the Latinx community. Their beverages are a delightful sweet treat to grab when walking around downtown Covina. For someone first dipping their toes into the coffee realm, Chismosa Cafe could be the right fit for you.
