During the week of Sept. 8, South Hills Huskies participated in the annual Echo spirit week as a countdown to the Echo rally and the Kings of Cameron football game. Each day, students were encouraged to come together to participate in the following themes: wearing camo, dressing in Hawaiian attire, matching with a group, bringing a stuffed animal, and wearing their class’ assigned color.
On Monday, Jayla Peña (9) was one of the many students who took part in wearing camo. It was her first spirit day of high school, and she wanted to participate to show school spirit.
“Having the camo theme for the start of the week is good, because it is very popular – the atmosphere is really nice so far, and it has been easy to make new friends,” Peña said.
For Tuesday, Ayden Haney (12), Mia Mota (12), and Julian Garcia (12) participated by dressing up in Hawaiian shirts and khaki bottoms. Haney particularly enjoyed the theme choice for that day, and explained why he enjoyed spirit days.
“I think spirit week is cool. I like dressing up like whatever the theme is. Spirit week brings school spirit into play and helps get people hyped for the big football game,” Haney said.
Savanah Godoy (11) “repped her pack” on Wednesday by wearing matching Dodgers attire. Godoy loved getting to match with her friends and was happy with the theme.
“I love how today’s theme is involving different friend groups and shows genuine friendships,” Godoy said.
On Thursday, Delanee Ortega (9) brought one of the many stuffed animals that were seen on campus. Ortega wanted to participate in the spirit day theme, so she brought her favorite one, a jellycat.
“I enjoyed bringing my plushie to school and being able to participate,” Ortega said.
Friday marked the end of spirit week, with each grade level wearing their assigned class colors. Upperclassmen wore green, and lowerclassmen wore yellow. Many students participated, and Levi Linenberger (10) shared his thoughts on the overall spirit week.
“Overall, it was a fun time being able to dress up. I felt like Wednesday was fun to wear the same thing as someone else, and to see everyone matching together,” Linenberger said.
