The 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament delivered thrilling matchups as top teams battled for the championship, with fierce competition and rising stars making it an exciting ride from start to finish.
The NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament started with 68 teams, including automatic bids for conference champions and at-large bids. The tournament progressed through multiple rounds, with teams being eliminated in each stage until only two remained to compete for the national title.
On March 24, the ‘Sweet 16’or the final 16 teams which remained in the tournament, consisted of South Carolina, UConn, UCLA, Texas, LSU, Duke, Notre Dame, and TCU. Other notable teams included USC, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Indiana, North Carolina, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State. These teams fought hard to make it to the Elite Eight, with star players like Paige Bueckers and Hailey Van Lith showing off their skills. The Sweet 16 games took place from March 28-29, which set the stage for an exciting next round of the tournament.
The Elite Eight consisted of numerous unexpected outcomes, with lower-seeded teams defeating favorites, disrupting many participants’ predictions as well as teams like UCLA and Uconn demonstrating their dominance with UConn’s decisive 81-59 victory and UCLA’s 76-62 win.
The tournament spanned 19 days, taking a significant toll on athlete’s bodies and their ability to maintain consistent performance. The Final Four teams were UCLA, UConn, Texas, and South Carolina.
In the Final Four matchups leading to the championship game, UConn dominated UCLA with a decisive 85-51 victory, while South Carolina defeated Texas 74-57.
The championship game between UConn and South Carolina was close early on, but UConn took control in the second half. With strong teamwork and solid defense, they pulled away and kept their lead. UConn’s experience and consistency showed throughout the game, helping them secure the win and claim the 2025 national championship.
