On February 7, 2025, SHHS had its first winter formal in years. The gym was decorated by ASB staff with colorful lights and winter backdrops to add a flare to its theme. Complimentary food was offered that featured burgers, sandwiches, chips and various desserts for anyone to grab as they pleased.
ASB president, Leia Lopez (12), decided on the formals theme, drawing inspiration from the early seasons of the popular show “Stranger Things” and its memorable “Snowball” dance. Winter formal was introduced to revive a tradition celebrated by previous generations. It also provided underclassmen with an additional special event to enjoy during their early highschool years.
“I wanted to have an on-campus dance because I felt like that is a super nostalgic thing we all hear about from the adults in our life. I just didn’t feel complete leaving high school without experiencing it. For underclassmen, all they get is homecoming, so we should have more opportunities to come together dressed up and just sing and dance,” Lopez said.
Students had much to say about the event, praising the high energetic atmosphere and unique decorations. Kyle Vo (12) expressed that his favorite part of the dance was capturing the night at the free photo booth, accessible for all students to use.
“The photo booth brightened up my night by creating unforgettable memories and being with the people I love most,” Vo said.
Setting the tone for the rest of the night, Ava Lewis (12) recalled how the music transformed the energy, adding another layer of joy to the entire evening. The combination of familiar songs and upbeat rhythm, helped evaluate excitement on the dance floor.
“I loved dancing with my friends, especially when the music brought everyone together in one big, energetic moment,” Lewis said.
