The in’s and out’s of 2024

For many people, the start of a new year means new beginnings. People make resolutions such as having a positive mindset, achieving new goals, and having a fresh start. Resolutions are an important factor because it can determine someone’s lifestyle and how they plan to achieve new goals.

As a year ends, many look back and reflect on whether or not they achieved their new year resolution. One common trend regarding new year resolutions that has been circulating TikTok and Instagram is people discussing the “ins,” (what they want to embrace) or “outs” (what they want to leave behind) of their lifestyle.

Students at South Hills were asked about what they would like to leave behind in 2023 and what they wanted to bring into the start of 2024.

Erin Garcia (11)

In: “Start off a new year fresh, like new clothes, new friends, and a new vibe. Starting out fresh gives a new perspective for every new year and opportunities. You just shouldn’t take those opportunities for granted, so it’s always good to start out fresh.”

Out: “Leave bad energy in 2023.”

Diego Rivera (10)

In: wants to start off the new year with a great start. “I want to bring in good habits, a positive mindset, getting good grades, getting better at basketball, working, and spending more time with my dogs.”

Out: “Leave bad habits behind.”

Victoria Cerda (9)

In: Throughout her first semester Cerda realized that there are things that she would want to change. “To have a certain bed time and to improve on my skin care.”

Out: “I would leave my bad sleep schedule because it affects how I do in school.”

Adrian Rivera (12)

In: “Rather than skipping family events to hangout with my friends, or my girlfriend, I rather be there, enjoying the moment.”

Out: “Being addicted to my phone made me feel like I wasn’t living in the moment.”

Hi! My name is Joslynn and this is my first year writing for Growl. I am currently a sophomore at South Hills High School, and I am looking forward to writing stories that many of you may love! If you don’t see me around school, then I am most likely laying down on my bed watching my favorite TV show, Gilmore Girls. There are many things that I enjoy doing such as reading, playing soccer, being around loved ones, and most importantly eating. I mean really who doesn’t love to eat. Anyways, I am so excited to be here, and most importantly I hope you have a good day!
