The South Hills huskies cheer team pose for a photo at the 2022 USA Nationals cheer competition.

The husky cheerleaders will be competing at USA Nationals on February 24 to win the title of national champions.

“I feel excited and nervous about competing because I like to compete and be with my team but I’m also nervous because I want to represent South Hills in a good way,” Charlotte Wright (10) said.

The team is taking every opportunity to improve their routine by having lots of practice to fully prepare.

“We’re having practices every single day for these past four weeks in order to get ready for everything because it’s just the little things in our routine that we need to perfect,” Sophia Camarena (10) said.

Wright has shared that the cheerleaders have been putting in their best effort during practices to achieve their greatest standard in each performance.

“Every practice I come ready to work, with a good mindset and I try my best during all the stunts and all of the performing. We were going to competitions before nationals so we’re using those to get ready for the nationals experience,” Wright said.

Camarena shared that the team hopes to accomplish more this year in the national championship.

“Competing at nationals is really exciting but it’s scary at the same time because last time we went, we placed really well but we didn’t make it to day two, so hopefully, we make it to day two this time and then we have a chance to win the national championship,” Camarena said.

The cheerleaders are not only hoping to win a national title but also gain a feeling more than accomplishment after competing.

“I think our team will learn how to work hard for a common goal and to push themselves to do the best they can for the team,” Wright said.
